After a dental implant is placed, most of the time we are not able to immediately connect a tooth to the implant due to the risk of improper healing. Therefore, after 4-6 months of dental implant healing and integration we are able to start the restorative process. The Implant abutment is connector piece between the dental implant and the dental crown. The implant abutment screws into the dental implant and provides a substrate for the dental crown to adhere to. Most of the time the implant abutment is customized for the best tissue esthetics and functionality of the dental implant complex. Dental implant crowns are lab fabricated and can either be screw retained or cement retained.
